DO NOT DARE OVERLOOK THIS POST
And I agree with that (to a certain extent). There is definitely sexism in Western society, but the fact of the matter is that it is not comparable to Asian, Middle Eastern, or other regions mentioned in the post. And it doesn’t need to be compared, hence why I was so frustrated with that post.
That post was even insinuating that the place of women in those countries is better than that of the U.S., which is downright ridiculous. Romanticising the place of women in those nations to criticise your own is honestly a very ignorant and insulting way to go about it.
I was also frustrated because that user is misinforming people, who may read posts such as that and misunderstand the place of women in those nations, which makes us even less likely to attempt to address the human rights violations of women around the world (which is something I care very much about). If he researched why women in those countries are privileged, he is most definitely aware that he was not contextualising those isolated statistics.
By the way, I hope it doesn’t seem as if I am attacking anyone - that last anon had left me another rude message so I wasn’t very eager to be nice to them
So what? It makes no difference what religion or race he is, it doesn’t make his post any less ignorant and simplistic.
I guess I just don’t find misleading statements about what women in those countries genuinely suffer a light-hearted topic. It’s easy for that guy to make fun of it, but if any of us had to go through what those women go through for one day I don’t think it’d be quite so light-hearted.
It may be true but that doesn’t negate the fact that it was taken out of context. Hence why I said it was simplistic. They’re taken completely out of context, and while a few upper-class, educated women may have those opportunities, that does not necessarily reflect the situation for the majority.
